The seminary is an outgrowth of the preparatory program begun in 1978 in Sarasota, Florida, by Rev. Carol Parrish. Sancta Sophia is located in the intentional spiritual community of Sparrow Hawk Village (established 1981), nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Ozark Mountains near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The story behind the school and its founder ... Rev. Carol E. Parrish, Ph.D., founder and dean of Sancta Sophia Seminary, is internationally recognized as an inspired teacher, author, and speaker. A transforming near-death experience at the age of 23 precipitated Carol's spiritual mission. Ordained in 1971, she left a promising business career to devote herself to teaching self-realization. Because so many of Rev. Parrish's students have become teachers and ministers, she is known as a "master teacher of teachers." In 1982, Carol was revealed as a spiritual messenger in Ruth Montgomery's best-selling book, Threshold to Tomorrow. Carol was guided to move from Sarasota, Florida to a remote location in Oklahoma, which became the new home of Sancta Sophia Seminary and the international community of Sparrow Hawk Village. Today, in addition to teaching and serving as dean of the seminary, and president of Light of Christ Community Church, she is a highly sought after international speaker and workshop presenter. Her leadership includes a spectrum of activities from the Network of Religious Futurists to the President's Council on the Status of Women. In addition, Rev. Parrish has authored six books and numerous educational audiocassettes. Her latest book is Adventure in Meditation - Spirituality for the 21st Century. Sparrow Hawk Village - Home of Sancta Sophia Seminary The magnificent 400-acre, wooded mountain setting where Carol was guided to establish Sparrow Hawk Village is the home of Sancta Sophia Seminary. This highly respected spiritual community provides a supportive environment for the practice of ethical living. It is comprised of 50 homes, church, wellness center, office buildings, library, gift shop, and bookstore. The church sanctuary is centered on a vortex of energies created by a start- shaped convergence of Earth leys. The vortex helps to create an environment conductive to personal growth. Villagers are self-supporting people who live, learn, meditate and worship together, along with students visiting for seminary classes. They embrace a broad range of beliefs - like-minded and independent. The community has its own water system and volunteer fire department, a community garden, and private ownership of property and homes. Wooded home sites and lovely homes are available for sale. The scenic Illinois River, known for excellent canoeing, fishing, and swimming, borders the property on three sides. Beautiful trails for hiking and horseback riding, and a full-service RV park and campground are also on the grounds. Sparrow Hawk Village is located ten miles from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, home of Northeastern State University and the Cherokee Nation capital. The Wellness Center at Sparrow Hawk Village provides holistic healing assistance through : spiritual healing, Reiki, Counselling, Reflexology, Massage Therapy, and many other practices.
