Autumn Preventatives
As we move into the season of the falling leaves, we are reminded of the importance of keeping our immune systems in top notch condition. It is indeed the time when the common cold and its cousin the flu, are ever present in the air and in the environment that surrounds us. So, unless our immune systems have been kept strong through the summer months, we might find ourselves in need of a little assistance.
Relax with a soothing ginger bath. Charge up with loads of vitamin C. Treat yourself to an Autumn Tonic. Tune up. You'll feel better once you've tried one of these time tested remedies.
Fall Tonic:
2 Tbs. Cayenne Pepper (powder)
2 Tbs. Ground Cinnamon
1/2 Cup Clover Honey
A fistful of parsley (fresh) (a palm-full if dry)
3 tbs. Ginger Powder
1 whole Ginseng Root (2 -3 fingers)
Pinch of Rosemary
Grind the Ginseng root using the very fine holes of a grater. In a stainless steel pan, put 2 quarts distilled water. Boil water for 5 minutes. Don't boil ingredients. Then pour water into a big jar on top of all the ingredients. Pour it through a sieve to drink. Don't dilute it.
This tonic cleans out the intestines, colon, lymphatics and prepares you for winter. If you re-heat it, you will sweat. Drink a cup a day. .
Healing Drink for Colds and Flu
1/2 lemon (washed and sliced, including the rind)
8 - 10 cloves of garlic
2 onions (quartered)
Distilled Water (8 oz to 1 quart depending on severity of infection)
Boil the above for 3 to 7 min. Add 1 ounce of brandy or liqueur after boiling.
Take 1 cup before each meal, 3-4 times per day.
Ginger Baths - Bathe Alone
Purpose:
To assist in ridding yourself of:
Chronic back problems
Congestion
Anger (body odor)
Irritation/Grumbles
Bath:
5 tsp. to 5 tbs. ground ginger
1 Cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 Cup to 1/2 C sea salt
Put into a very hot bath and soak for 20 min. Get out and drain bath and follow with a shower and shampoo in warm water. Afterwards, put a drop of peppermint oil in palm of hands and inhale and go to bed.
If with a sexual partner, the peppermint oil brings the experience of sex into the heart instead of the head. After having sex, a tranquil, velvety feeling comes which creates a violet ray.
High Vitamin C
The following are high in vitamin C:
-fresh fruit and vegetables.
-basil, echinacea (cone flora), Golden seal
-Dog Rose (rosehips rich in vitamin C and E)
-garlic (Vitamins A, B1, B2, C) .
[Garlic is a potent antiseptic and has antibiotic properties.]
-onion - Vitamins B1, B2 and C. It is a superlative tonic.
-watercress is rich in vitamin C and is an antiscorbutic, good for scurvy.
-horehound contains vitamin C and is good for soothing coughs. [It is an expectorant.]
-horseradish contains an antibiotic substance and vitamin C.
Yogurt:
During this time of cold and flu season, yogurt helps to build up healthy bacteria in the intestines. 3 cups a day is recommended to assist in fighting viruses that are in the air now.
Basil:
Basil has the property of clearing the head and a stuffy nose. Make a little sachet of it and use it for headaches or sinus problems. In Italy, a sprig of Basil is an emblem of love and fidelity.
Echinacea:
Echinacea is used as a "blood purifier" - an agent to cleanse the body of toxic materials. It is helpful in treating infections. Echinacea is a natural antibiotic, helping restore normal body functions. It boosts the immune system.
Garlic & Onions:
Garlic and onions have always been a popular remedy for colds, sore throats, and congestion. Eat raw or very lightly steamed or sautéed.
