The 3-peaks challenge

Dear All

I would like to thank you all on behalf of my team and myself for sending us your prayers while we were doing the Three-Peaks Challenge for charity.

The raisons why this idea was started is that we have two women in our group (one walker and one driver) that have been victims of domestic violence and they wanted to help. They posted the idea on the site where we all work and all the others volunteered.

The angle was too steep, however, and so he just lay there. I walked over to him, and laid my hand on his head. He closed his eyes, and seemed to just want to sleep.

We were a group of 12 women in total, 3 were our support group (cook and drivers) and the remaining 9 were the walkers.

We accomplished this challenge in 24 hours and the 3 peaks were in Scotland, Wales and England.

We flew out of Heathrow airport on Thursday 23rd June and arrived in Inverness, Scotland at around 2pm. We then drove in our rented minibus to Fort Williams where Ben Navis is. Ben Navis is the tallest mountain in Scotland. We started our climb at 6pm and finished at midnight, we then quickly jumped into our minibus and drove 5 hours to our next mountain, Scaffel Pike; again the tallest mountain in the north of England. We finished this one at 11am and drove to Wales to start climbing our last mountain Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales. Out of 9 walkers, 6 made the challenge and because of you all I was one of them.

My dear sister Claire made me a little bag of lucky herbs that I carried on me at all time and I really believe that this little treasure plus all your prayers gave me the strength to do it. Believe me when I say that this challenge was well beyond my endurance andit's a miracle that I did it! We raised 35,000 US dollars for a charity called REFUGE, it's a charity for battered women and children, victims of domestic violence. This charity funds accommodation and counselling for them.

Taking on this challenge has helped me a great deal too as I now believe that I CAN DO ANYTHING IF I REALLY WANT TO. Each time I will feel down, I will remember what I have achieved and that will give me back my wings."

Bless you all,

Mireille Montillet
