| The headlines talked about the giant Oak Tree, over 300 years old by
the best estimates, which had fallen in the storm. It was recognized as
the second oldest tree in the State of Ohio, and had been tagged and revered
as such. Reading about its death, and the plans the home owner had for
turning its stump into a planter reminded me of the teaching Grandmother
had done at Great Pine last year. She told us that the Tree People would
be deciding among themselves which would do giveaway.
Since then, I have noted the passing of many trees. The storms have
taken some out; others have given way to drought or insects. Pollution
and industry are responsible for calling more into Spirit World. It's gratifying
to me to know that the Trees are willing to go to the other side, as Grandmother
said, to negotiate on our behalf. They are our closest life giving relative,
and they provide us with our oxygen. It's time to acknowledge the unconditional,
ever giving love they extend to us, and spend time sitting under a tree;
hugging a tree, and yes, talking to trees. It's amazing what a response
you can detect in the being when you take the time to speak to it, and
you extend appreciation to it for all it does. Remember, they cannot run
from the bulldozers which come to cut them. They stand erect in the fiercest
storm, accepting without question or judgment, the blazing winds. They
house many critters, and provide cool shade and often food for those who
need nourishment. Through every season, the Pine stands, green and serene.
These gifts are precious, and Now is a Good Time to express and to experience
relationship with the Trees.
